Meet Professor Felicia Ogunseye, the first female professor in Nigeria.

Felicia Adetowun Omolara Ogunseye (nee Banjo) was born on the 5th of December 1926 at Benin, Edo state (though her parents were from Ogun state). Her younger brother was Colonel Victor Adebukunola, a soldier in the Biafran army who was executed after being accused of plotting a coup again the then Biafran President, late Odumegwu Ojuwku.
She had her secondary school education at Queen's College. From there, she proceeded to Yaba college of technology (and was the only female student there as at then). In 1948, she received her diploma, which made her to become the first woman to graduate from the school.
She proceeded to University College, lbadan (which is now known as University of lbadan). She later gained a scholarship to study Geography at Newnham College, Cambridge University, United Kingdom. She earned her BA and MA degrees in 1952 and 1956
respectively at Newnham University. She earned another master's degree in library science from Simmons College, Massachusetts, U.S.A in 1962.
In 1973, she became a professor at the University of lbadan (making her the first female Professor in Nigeria). Between 1977 and 1979, she was appointed as the Dean of the faculty of education at University of lbadan, which also made her become the first woman to become a Dean in any Nigeria University.
She married a very influential activist named Fidelis Ogunsheye.
Professor Felicia has received countless awards and honours. She also holds the chieftaincy title of lyalaje of Ile-Oluji in 1982.
